NYC Photography: The Sphere in Battery Park

One of the last physical remnants of the September 11th attacks is the Fritz Koenig sculpture known as “The Sphere.”  It has been a fixture in Battery Park since 2002.  Originally, it sat in the plaza between the original World Trade Center towers and during the 9/11 terror attacks it survived the falling and burning debris.

This photo is moving to me as you see the new towers in the background as well as a small flag flying atop a building to the right.

  4. Great photo! I never made it down that way as I didn’t want to hit the crowds.

  5. That is definitely one, powerful picture detailing what that sculpture has endured.

It hits even harder with those tribute towers in the background!

I didn’t even know that was down there in Battery Park, and when I lived in NYC I visited there often. Going to have to seek it out one day!
