On May 5th the debut of award-winning children’s artist Debi Derryberry’s third CD, Debi Derryberry’s Baby Banana was released! The tropically-themed CD, named for Debi’s adorable new preschool character, Baby Banana, offers a mix of five new songs and four favorites, all written and performed by the acclaimed singer/songwriter. The CD also includes a bonus track of Debi reading “Baby Banana and the Licorice Tree,” her 28-page storybook, available now.
Debi’s captivating new CD soars with a highly repeatable blend of calypso, reggae, jazz and folk rock genres which perfectly match the lyrics’ colorful characters, themes and setting. The inspiration for the CD and the Baby Banana brand comes from a bedtime story about a unique and loving family — Baby Banana, Momma Duck and Daddy Gorilla — which was originally created as a bedtime story for Debi’s young son.
Our Take: My kids adored the CD, my 3 year old danced her heart out on Scoops of Ice Cream and Baby Banana. All the tunes were catchy, and the included lyrics made it fun for my older kids to read and follow along. After just one run through, the songs have all stuck in our heads!
Probably best known as “the voice of Jimmy Neutron,” Debi has also worked doing voice-over roles in “Ice Age 2” and Disney’s “The Wild.” On the small screen, some of her most prominent work includes Gnocchi from “Curious George,” Clay on Playhouse Disney, Weenie from “Oswald the Octopus,” “Zatch Bell,” Ryo Ohki from “Tenchi Muyo,” Jackie from “Bobby’s World,” Jeannie from the Emmy Nominated “Life with Louie” and Wednesday from “The Addams Family.”
Just launched, Debi Derryberry’s new interactive website, http://www.mybabybanana.com/ for kids 2-6! Visitors to the website will be enchanted as they enter a tropical fantasy world filled with calypso-themed music and videos, colorful animations and a host of hands-on activities, including these highlights:
· Four beautifully-produced new music videos that feature Debi performing her songs in a blend of live action and animation: “Baby Banana,” “Happiest Day,” “Tropical Fruit” and “I Wish You Could Fly with Me.”
